Welcome to the SIF Certification Website!

About the SIF Certification Program:

The SIF standard enables disparate applications to exchange data without re-entry and to provide consistent, reliable and timely data to all applications within an educational enterprise. The SIF Association has established the SIF Certification Program to help ensure that data is successfully transferred between applications and that the transferred data successfully resides in both sharing applications. Several documents are of particular use to any solution provider considering obtaining SIF Certification for their product.

The SIF Certification Guide provides an overview of the entire certification process and should be referred to first.

The SIF Certification Policy documents in detail the policies that govern the operation of the SIF Certification program. These policies define what software products can be certified, what it means to be certified, and the process for achieving and maintaining certification. Buyers intending to procure SIF-certified products will also find this document useful for understanding what they may expect from such a certified product.

Taken together, the SIF Certification Agreement and the SIF Trademark License Agreement (TMLA) constitute the set of requirements and obligations for achieving certification.

As a condition of participation in the certification program, the applicant must warrant and represent that the product in question meets the applicable conformance requirements, which include conformance to the applicable version of the SIF Implementation Specification(s), and a passing result from the SIF Test Harness for the corresponding test suite for that version.

From time to time, the Association will issue new versions of its specification(s). Correspondingly, new versions of the SIF Certification test suites will be made available to the Test Harness to allow submitters to prove compliance with such new specification releases. The SIF Certification Program is a voluntary program; participation is at the Solution Provider’s option.

All products that have successfully completed the SIF Certification Program are listed in the SIF Certification Registry.  A full list of the SIF Certification Fees is also available from this site.

Benefits

The certification program benefits both customers and vendors by:
  • Providing end users an assurance of a high level of conformance and interoperability between SIF-certified products.
  • Reducing the vendor’s costs and risks involved with getting a product certified.

Under the SIF Certification Program, vendors warrant conformance to a specification. This requires that their product will remain conformant throughout the life of the product’s registration, and that any non-conformance will be promptly fixed.

What next?

The SIF Certification Guide is designed to answer the basic questions of an applicant and walk them through the certification process, and should be the first document referred to.  The following set of steps provides a high level view of the SIF Certification process:

Ø  Step 1:  Test your product
  • Select the relevant Test Suite, complete the Conformance Statement Questionnaire (CSQ) and Test Harness
    • If you are renewing certification on a product without making any changes, skip to Step 3.
Ø  Step 2:  SIF Association TMLA
  • For new certifications (i.e. products that have not been through the SIF Certification Program previously, or products which have been re-released since their last certification), the TMLA should be completed and sent to testresults@sifassociation.org with your SIF Certification Agreement.
    • Please ensure your product name is referenced in the subject and/or body of all email correspondence.
  • All products must be accompanied by a SIF Certification Agreement.  Once completed, send to testresults@sifassociation.org.
    • Please ensure your product name is referenced in the subject and/or body of all email correspondence.
Ø  Step 4:  Make payment
  • Once your product has passed the relevant Test Harness, and you have sent the SIF Certification Agreement and TMLA (if required), please review the Fee Schedule and submit your payment details.
Ø  Step 5:  SIF Certification complete!
  • Once you have completed all the above steps, you will be sent a SIF Certificate and a ‘SIF Certified’ logo that you may wish to display on your organization’s website.
Should you have any queries, please do not hesitate to contact John Lovell, Senior Systems Developer, or Penny Murray, Community Development Manager.
